Meet Mike Hopp

If you're reading this, I'd like to say thank you for checking out my

website. I'm excited to be starting Hopp's Shop Firearms Consulting

because it allows me to share my knowledge of firearms and firearm

safety with fellow members of my community.

I'd like to share a bit about myself so you can understand my experience and

history with firearms and in the community.

Growing up, I was close with my family. My uncle ran a small business he called Hopp's Shop

that consisted of re-finishing and painting furniture. I worked for my uncle as a teen and throughout high school. My uncle and I refinished everything from WWII Chests to Criss Craft Boats as well as countless antiques.

After high school, I attended Alexandria Tech from 1994 to 1996. After graduating from the Law Enforcement (LE) program with an AS degree, my first law enforcement job was Chief of Police for the City of Kindred. I was recruited to the West Fargo Police Department in 1998. I started on patrol and was soon working investigations. While working for the WFPD, I chose to become further involved in the community which lead me to start volunteering for the Cass County Bomb Team and as a Youth Explorer Instructor.

I left the law enforcement field as a decorated officer with an NDPOA Life Saving Award. It was a rewarding and engaging career but I changed paths in order to have more time to spend with my family.

When starting my new business, I wanted to pay homage to my uncle and use my family's name so Hopp's Shop Firearms Consulting, LLC was established in 2022.

My business is 100% customer focused with an open forum style of consultation. All questions asked will be answered to the best of my abilities. I intend to help each customer find the right gun to fit their physicality and abilities, increase knowledge of firearms, and learn how to perform maintenance on firearms. In each consultation, there will be handling of firearms and whether it is a pistol or a long gun, the first priority in every consultation will be SAFETY.

Some common topics of instruction may be:

  • Learn how a bullet is made

  • Terminology used for firearms and ammo

  • How bullets and powder are weighed

  • Proper ammunition for the caliber of the weapon

  • Ammo laws and regulations including those for hunting

  • Proper range etiquette for both indoor and outdoor ranges

  • Hand loading under my direct supervision

  • Proper stance and grip of a firearm

  • Proper hand off of a firearm

  • Trigger pulling and accuracy

  • Field Stripping a weapon and re-assembling

  • Firearm insurance

  • Bore site and dial optics

  • Consultation on firearm purchase

For each consultation, we will shoot at the Red River Marksmanship Center of which I am a member. It will cost each customer $15 as they receive a discount shooting with a member. I will provide eye and ear protection at no cost.

If a customer would like to try different weapons and calibers I will supply my weapons and store purchased ammo. This will allow a customer to see what they like and do not like about different weapons. For the instruction part of each consultation, I prefer to do so at my home office. I will accommodate anyone with a disability by going to their home so long as it is North Dakota. Any Minnesota resident must come to my home office for instruction.

With my 45 years of experience handling a weapon, I first learned at 5 years old, I have not had one injury — I grew up with a culture around firearms that values SAFETY. This is the same culture I intend to pass onto my clients.
